Project Overview

Redesigning the on-boarding process
2 Weeks Sprint, Agile Team of 3
Tools: Pen and Paper, Google Forms, OmniGraffle, Sketch, Keynote, Marvel, Trello

Company

Search Style allows you to find street fashion trends around the world & connect with an international community of fashion lovers, bloggers and brands.

Brief

Search Style tasked us with redesigning the sign up process and make it exciting. The client was trying to increase their user base, and didn't want to have to worry about losing potential users at the first hurdle.

Outcome

In just two weeks, my team and I created a new fun and simple on-boarding process, which works towards Search Style business goals and objectives. The client is building our design.

Process

For this project we applied the double diamond design process,
which consists of the following four stages and methodologies.

Business & Competitive Analysis, Contextual Inquiry, Survey, Interview, Card Sorting

Personas, User Journey, User Flow,
Feature Prioritisation

Design Studio,
Rapid Prototype, Wireframing,
User testing

High-fidelity prototype, Project presentation, Specification Document

Discover

We began by getting to know Search Style and conducted an interview with the stakeholders to better understand their business goals and objectives, vision and milestones. We analysed the competitors and conducted extensive user research in order to find out what other companies are offering and what the users needs and motivations are.  As part of the Discovery stage we observed people signing up to Search Style and using the website to see what works well and what doesn’t.   Key insights from the Discovery phase are the following:

Define

In the Define phase we synthesised our findings into useful tools (such as user flows, user journeys, personas) that would guide us through the design process and help us always refer to the users’ needs and make sure we address their frustrations. We created three personas (personas are representations of different user types) and decided to focus on two primary personas - Paan the fashion lover and Naomi the fashion blogger – because they best combined the business and user needs and represented Search Style targeted user at this stage. We then prioritised the features and identified which are the most important ones having Paan and Naomi in mind. Based on our research insights we formed the problem, our proposed solution and hypothesis:

Develop

We facilitated 2 design studios, which were aimed at generating ideas quickly. They consisted of few rounds of sketching and then picking the best designs. The first one, where we worked with Search Style’s stakeholders, was focused on edit profile & account settings pages, while the second one was focused on the on-boarding signup process. The result was our first paper prototype, which we then transformed into digital wireframes. We continuously tested and iterated based on user feedback, as well as always referring to the business needs of our client.

Deliver

At the end of the two weeks sprint we presented our findings and proposal to the client and delivered a design specification document which consisted of our research, a high-fidelity clickable prototype in Marvel, annotated version of the designs and recommendations to future developments. I am proud to say that our client was very pleased with the outcomes and will implement the design on their website.
