Selfridges, also known as Selfridge & Co., is a chain of high end department stores in the United Kingdom. They stock a wide range of products, from fashion, to accessories, to party supplies.
Create a microsite that will help people gain visual inspiration, plan and manage their parties.
I created a website that allows users to gain visual inspiration from themes and looks, which they can customise and configure, forming a set of products for purchase. My solutions also offer a party planning platform, including a simple dashboard, where users can invite and manage their guests, keep track of their budget and to do list.
For this project I worked in two phases.
In the Discovery phase I focused on research and in the Develop phase I focused on design.
Task analysis, User journey, User flows
Site map, rapid paper prototype, digital wireframes, clickable prototype
The problem Recent market research shows that people find it difficult to throw parties due to costs involved, which continue to rise, they feel they need more advice and ideas on how to throw a great party, and it takes too much time to organise one. I was presented with 3 personas and chose to focus on Willow because she best represents the needs of all three. I interviewed people who match Willow’s persona in order to find out what are the steps people take when organising a party, which helped me identify what are the pain points:
With those in mind I researched the competition to see what other companies are offering and how they address these issues. I made a selection of features, which I then used in my designs.
My solution helps people find ideas and inspiration for throwing a theme party and allows them to easily plan and manage invites, budget and ‘to does’. First I created a paper prototype and ran two rounds of testing with six people all together. Based on the user feedback I identified what is working and what needs to be improved. I then developed the digital wireframes with the improved version of my designs. Another round of testing served me for recommending next steps for improvement.
